Touchstone 3.1: Construct a Rogerian Argument
ASSIGNMENT: As you learned in this unit, a Rogerian argument is one that presents two sides of a debate and argues for a solution that will satisfy both sides. Given two articles presenting opposing sides of an issue (mandatory uniforms in schools), construct your own 2-3 page Rogerian argument essay in which you attempt to arrive at a workable solution or "middle ground."
In order to foster learning and growth, all essays you submit must be newly written specifically for this course. Any recycled work will be sent back with a 0, and you will be given one attempt to redo the Touchstone.

Different individuals provide a different perspective in various areas and places. A familiar example that brought the attention of many students as they experience these policies is the school uniform. Although some experienced not being reprimanded for the mandatory uniforms, some within the same population will oppose such actions. This paper will present the perspective of the two parties, which are those who support and oppose the idea.
Mandatory Uniforms in School: The Two Faces
According to Anderson (2002), having a mandatory uniform within the school premises provides a good impact on the students and its environment. It was stated that requiring students always to wear their uniforms in school provides the idea of being unified and in order. Safety and security were also presented as results for using mandatory uniforms within the student community as they again provide students. The perspective of Deane (2015) stated that uniforms also positively impact children, especially in the view of diversity. She stated that a uniform is not worn by students casually as it provides a much deeper meaning to it, and this was being able to see other people from the same level. Since schools are composed of diverse students, it may be ethnically, intellectually, mentally, physically, or more, uniforms provide a foreground that these various students are students of the same level, rights, and ability.
Although on the other hand, both authors also provided important facts that present the other side of the coin in terms of perspective in mandatory uniform. From the article of Deane (2015), she stated that “School uniform policies dress difference; they do not address it.” This considerably means that rather than the uniform being the source of change within the school premises, it extensively covers the fact that there is great diversity within that area. Instead of the school trying to address the students' knowledge about diversity being typical, uniform creates the idea that diversity should be gone, especially that uniforms have been continuously worn by students ever since they are young. The same goes with the article of Anderson (2002)...
