Procedural Appeal to Academic Exclusion
Dear Deputy Vice-Chancellor
I am writing to appeal my academic exclusion from the _____________________University. I understand that I have not met the threshold learning requirements in the previous semester, which calls for the decision subject to the rule required to maintain satisfactory academic progress. I tried my best to uphold the legislation requirement. However, extenuating circumstances prevented me from withdrawing from the course on time or before the census date. My parents were also having financial difficulty during the Covid-19 pandemic. Therefore, I had to find an alternative way to earn money by getting employed.
Consequently, I found it unmanageable to balance my academics and personal errands, which unfortunately contributed to my dismal academic performance during the second semester of September 2021. Another impediment to my academic success was my grandfather falling, thus, increasing my emotional suffering. I had to miss some classes and spend less time studying because I was taking care of him by delivering dinner in the evening.
My grandfather passed away in April, which negatively impacted my academic effort. I found it challenging to focus and concentrate while studying. I also had to quit my job as my medical condition worsened, affecting my ability to learn and work simultaneously. I thought things would be normal until I was diagnosed with depression symptoms on the 18th of May. Thus, it was already past the census deadline and too late for applications for the course withdrawals.
