The goal of the capstone is for you to focus on the impact of climate change on communities. We center this assignment on communities because while the impacts of climate change are global, certain communities will be hit harder as we will learn all semester. By community, we mean a village, a town, or, at largest, a city. A state or country is not considered a community.

You will be responsible for doing the research, choosing the topic, and finding the community. We suggest that you use sources like the New York Times, Washington Post, Wikipedia, or Google Scholar to do your research. 

You must write this in your own words. Paraphrase everything. This means absolutely no direct copying will be tolerated and you will also lose credit even for copying with quotation marks. Instructions for this week

Step 1: Choose a topic and a community (a village, a town, or, at largest, a city). Possible topics include ocean acidification, hypoxia, ocean warming. El Nino, La Nina, fisheries. Please make sure that you choose a different topic and community than you used in previous entries!

La Nina is a threat currently faced by several East and Central Pacific communities. This condition causes the cooling of the east and central tropic of the Pacific more than usual due to persistent colder air. Johnson (2022) explained that Ohio city is vulnerable to La Nina. The climatic change causes heavy floods and storms, which are deadly. La Nina also causes cyclones, as evident from the historical background presented by Gissing (2021). It is the primary concern in the essay due to its intensive negative impact on Ohio as one of the communities affected by the condition.
Based on the climatic patterns observed by meteorologists, severe weather conditions such as storms and a high chance of tornadoes represents frequently expected outcomes. Evidence presented by Gissing (2021) demonstrates that people should expect extreme cases of La Nina in the spring period than in winter. One of the concerning challenges in this community is the associated destruction related to La Nina because it leads to damage to property and sometimes loss of lives and injuries. The mental health status of individuals is also at stake due to the anxiety caused by losing property and life. Moreover, economists indicate that the routine disruption of the businesses and interruption of trading routes by storms and floods affects the town’s economy. The ramification outlined by Gissing (2021) highlights the need for sustainable mitigation strategies in response to this climatic change.
