Race and Oppression
Racism refers to discrimination and ill-treatment with a single member of the entire social group based on their race and ethnicity. Typically, the party who falls victim to this unjust treatment and stereotyping belongs to that of the minority (Wilson, 2019). This discrimination can be in terms of economic, social, or political factors. It brings along adverse effects on the socio-emotional wellbeing of people and creates differences among them.
Racial discrimination can be observed in the job market throughout the globe. Particularly in the U.S., where prejudice continues to prevail despite having equal employment policies in place. Researches support this stance where employers, when confronted with a choice, favored the white one over the candidate of color. Being a black woman from Haiti, I have faced difficulty securing a job because of my color. The white counterpart earns a higher wage than the black. He was treated in an inhumane manner, even when it was evident that he was mentally unstable. All of these shows how people of color face oppression in different ways.
Sexual Orientation and Privilege
It is one of the least visible aspects of one’s life as it is not always obvious to identify with the other person’s sexual orientation. People identify themselves differently according to the LGBT community. Many people belonging to this community hesitate to share their sexual identity due to the stigmas attached to it. The traits of Heterosexism in my society are more than jus...
