Some of the key concepts that I would incorporate into a speech would be to take things one step at a time. I would tell them that in the field of PR, things do move relatively quick so it’s important to put things into perspective. Without strategic planning, you will more thank likely end up missing the bigger picture and the overall objective. It’s important to take the time to create a strategic plan to set your company up for success. The first key tip to creating a helpful PR plan would be to look at your industry as a whole. Look at how things have changed over the years. How have things progressed? Who are the competitors? What outside factors might affect our overall performance? It’s important to gain an overall assessment of the company overall in order to progress. This is the foundation of your strategic plan. The second key tip would be to identify your target audience. Take a look at who your current customer base is as well as their demographics such as gender, age, etc. Do more research as to how they consume media. Think of “What content can I create to appeal to the customer base?” This will help you identify the people that are interested in engaging with your products. The third most important tip would be to create established goals, objectives, strategies, and tactics. When thinking of goals, its important to think about what you want to be accomplished. Your objectives are the outcomes of your strategic planning. Your objectives should be SMART (specific, measurable, agreed upon, realistic, and time-based). Your strategies are how you will achieve the objectives. Tactics are essentially the steps on the ladder to support the strategy.
