Historical and Descriptive Context of UNESCO Media Network
1 Introduction
The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) Media Network is a global initiative to promote media literacy and the development of media and information literacy (MIL) worldwide. The network was launched in late 2013 to support UNESCO’s mission of building peace through education, science, and culture. The organization has been working hard to promote cultural heritage and prominent monuments related to history worldwide. The network aims to bring together different stakeholders to promote media and information literacy, foster dialogue and collaboration, provide access to resources and tools, and facilitate the exchange of information and knowledge (Zhao, Fan, Gao, & Tang, 2005). As part of UNESCO’s overall media and information literacy strategy, the network provides a platform for connecting individuals, organizations, and institutions worldwide to create a global community of MIL practitioners.
2. Historical Development of UNESCO Media Network
2.1 Origins of UNESCO Media Network
UNESCO’s digital platform was launched in 2013 as part of UNESCO’s overall strategy for media and information literacy. The initiative was created in response to the increasing need for media and information literacy in the digital age. The network was established to create a global platform for connecting individuals, organizations, and institutions from around the world. Before this international organization’s establishment, no medium was there to foster dialogue and collaboration, provide access to resources and tools, and facilitate the exchange of information and knowledge.
2.2 Initial Technological Developments
The UNESCO digital medium utilizes various technologies to exchange information and knowledge. The network is built on an open-source platform that enables users to share, collaborate, and engage in online conversations. It also provides access to various online tools and resources, including a searchable database of MIL-related events, articles, and studies (Pavlič’, 1987). Additionally, the network provides a platform for users to connect, allowing them to share ideas, resources, and experiences. With the passage of time, technological changes kept occurring, and the company’s digital network went on expanding. The international organization has developed a well-organized digital database of several monuments and historical, educational and popular places worldwide. This data is secured and cannot be encrypted in any way.
2.3 Administrative Organization
The network comprises three main components: an online community, a global network of MIL experts and practitioners...
