Edge of Heaven
One of the most important characteristics that any film viewer should know is how to understand the relationship between films and other art forms. This kind of skills allows for a deeper appreciation of the context of the film as well as the mindset of its creator that lead to its final result. Accordingly, such analysis could be done by looking into the form and the contents of the. Elements such as how the plot is portrayed in every single shot, how a scene is framed, and how a character is introduced, are only some of the various ways on how such analysis could be done. Accordingly, in this article, I would like to focus on Akin’s 2007 film entitled The Edge of Heaven. Particularly, I would like to analyze the various contents, setting, and display in relation to the cultural and social elements that could be gleaned from the piece. Finally, I am hoping to relate the whole piece to the concept of hyphenated identity as written and described by Deniz Bayrakdar.
Edge of Heaven
Akin’s 2007 film entitled The Edge of Heaven, removes around the life of Ali Aksu as she tries to deal with the life of being a widow, while also supporting her son Nejat. Additionally, her life was portrayed in juxtaposition to that of Yeter Ozturk, who was the wife of Yeter. As early as the time when the characters where initially introduced, it was clear that
plot of Akin's film focuses on the lives of a Turkish widower named Ali Aksu, his son Nejat Aksu, and the former's wife, Yeter Ozturk. Early in the story, the viewers could already see that there was a romantic relationship that developed between Ali and Yeter, after the former has become a widow. However, such intimate relationship had begin to crumble when Yeter met Ali’s son Nejat and fell in love with one another, thereby leading the former to kill Yeter.
