Evolution Organization Communication Based on Management Theories Communication is a crucial element of any functional society or organization. In organizations, communication is a crucial pillar because it determines the interaction between employees, between employees and the management leadership, and between the organization and society. The industrial revolution changed societies from being agriculture-centric to industry-centered. Since then, communication, the way messages are exchanges, the systems and processes that allow the interchange of messages, and the packaging of messages has changed significantly. Communication has become increasingly complicated based on factors like globalization, terrorism, climate change, and demographics (Miller & Barbour, 2014). As a result, there has been an evolution in communication in organizations since the Industrial Revolution. Classical Theories of Management             Theoretical approaches and frameworks for organization management at the advent of the industrial revolution may not be applicable in the modern world. In essence, the changes due to globalization, terrorism, climate change, and demographics make some aspects of classical theories obsolete in the modern world. According to Miller and Barbour (2014), the early models of communication, captured in the classical theories, were highly simplistic. Based on the S-M-C-R model, the early communication models focused on transmitting the source, the message, the channel of communication, and the receiver. Some of the classical theories that relied on the S-M-C-R model include Henry Fayol’s theory of classical management, Max Weber’s theory of bureaucracy, and Frederick Taylor's scientific management theory (Miller & Barbour, 2014, p. 18). A key aspect across these theories is that the authors viewed organizations through a machine metaphor. This perception gives each of the theories identical approaches to communication both within and without an organization. Critical areas of communication based on the machine metaphor point of view include the content of communication, the direction in which communication flows, the channels through which communication occurs, and the style of communication. In classical theories, the contents of messages were task-oriented (Miller & Barbour, 2014, p. 30). In Henry Fayol’s theory, for instance, the principle of subordination implies that the organizational interests were more important than employee personal interests. As a result, the communication-focused solely on task-related topics. Further, in terms of the direction of flow of communication, classical theorists favored the downward vertical flow of information down the hierarchical structure established by the theories. Since the content of communication was task-oriente...
