If the materials or resources that a firm has are valuable, they offer significant benefits to the firm. As of 15th May 2019, the Disney Company had a brand value of $52.2 billion. In 2018, the firm generated a revenue of about $58 billion (Trefis Team, 2018). Indeed, it operates five primary business segments, namely media network, resorts and parks, interactive media, consumer products, and studio entertainment. The Disney Company is valuable since it has a renowned brand name worldwide. The firm uses its resources to gain competitive advantages. For example, the Disney Company can set up parks in different parts of the world. In 2018, the firm launched the Toy Story Land in Shanghai Disneyland (Trefis Team, 2018). For this reason, the company’s resources are valuable since they enable it to generate more revenues.
Rare resources enable a company to have strengths such that it can compete without difficulties. The Disney Company has been operating for over 90 years since it was founded in October 1923. For all that time, the firm has introduced numerous characters that are recognized globally, which makes the company have a competitive advantage.
