The Chicago Cubs have a long-standing relationship with Budweiser, dating back to the early days of the Anheuser-Busch company. The Chicago Cubs is one of the Major League Baseball (MLB) teams that play in the National League Central Division. The team is based in Chicago, Illinois, and their home games are played at Wrigley Field. Previously known as the Chicago White Stockings, the club was formed in the 1870s and later changed to Chicago Cubs (Jozsa, 2015). The Cubs have won three World Series championships, most recently in 2016. Budweiser is an American-style adjunct lager introduced by Adolphus Busch in 1876. It has become one of the largest-selling beers in the United States (Cabras & Higgins, 2016). In 2008, InBev acquired Anheuser-Busch, making the Budweiser brand a part of the newly formed company, Anheuser-Busch InBev (AB InBev) (Cabras & Higgins, 2016).
Budweiser is the Official Beer of the Cubs. The company has built a strong presence within Wrigley Field, sponsoring multiple suites, advertising on Scoreboard LED video boards and in-stadium signage, and providing game tickets to select fans (Winfree et al., 2018).
