Sina is a Chinese publicly traded company that has specialized in digital media, mobile data, mobile applications, and other social platforms for China and Chinese people at the global level. The company was started in 1999 and ever since, it has grown and reached a level where it is serving the Chinese people at the international level. Sina has strategized into three media platforms, namely Weibo, Sina Network, and other platforms that deal with mobile applications and social media platforms. Sina.com is the company’s website offering diverse media connection and media services to a range of consumers across the world, making sure that Chinese remain connected to the network even when they are away from home. This paper is an analysis of Sina Company. To be able to meet and operate within the company’s mission and vision, the firm is involved in aggressive social transformation activities including providing internet services, advertisement services, mobile applications, and telecommunication services both at home and overseas in some countries. According to Bloomberg, Sina serves the global community by providing news updates on its websites, sporting events, and engaging the public through social activities with the goal of maintaining a link to its customers.
Challenges facing Sina Corp
According to Sun (2017), Sina is currently facing some challenges in the market. In 2017, the company’s stocks started plummeting due to uncertainty in Weibo, a joint company and partner in Sina. The uncertainty in Weibo attracted public attention considering that shareholders are always keen and strict in analyzing a company before daring to invest. Another challenge is the competition between Tencent and Alibaba. Most services offered by Sina overlap with those of other technology giants in the country such as Alibaba. At the global level, Sina is forced to face and endure competition from other e-commerce giants such as Amazon.
