The Shofar
The shofar was created by Moshe Ben-Dove in 1943. Moshe was an inmate in a camp where his major role was based on metal works. The idea of making a shofar was promoted by Rabbi Flinckler, Moshe’s partner at the camp. It was meant to arouse mighty Mercy of Jewish community (Yad, V.2017). The shofar is made up of a ram horn whereby it was drilled to allow production of sound when it was blown.
Shofars in Jewish communities were made up of rams’ or antelopes horn. Most shofars are drilled at both ends to create a hollow space which would allow easy passage of air. Shofars made up of long horns from antelopes are drilled at the side of the sharper edge of the horn (Baruch, L. 2018). The shofar has only two holes the mouth part where air enters and the larger opening where sounds come out. Different types of shofars produce different sounds.
