Self-Narrative Development: Motivation among Students
Self-Narrative Development & Presentation: Each student will have the opportunity to share a defining moment from their lives that has created a foundation for who they are and who they aspire to become. The story will be 10 minutes long (max) and provide depth and insight creating opportunities for classmate connections. A shortened version will be shared with classmates and faculty during the residency.

A defining moment was when I was in high school and didn’t take academics seriously so instead of going to a big university out of high school I had to go to a junior college for 2 years since that happened that really changed my life drastically and it made me want to be better and make better grades in college and that’s what I’ve been doing

Ladies and gentlemen,
Everyone has a source of academic inspiration, which may be negative or positive. In most cases, the negatives provide the most inspiration, as I learned from my academic journey. We often get an awakening call when we miss a potential opportunity that we were targeting but never worked hard for it. A study from Ohio State University published in the Science Daily (2021) argues that parents believe if students are not motivated to do well in class, nothing will change their situation. I agree with this research as it presents a similar case with my defining moment transitioning from high school to college.
