Great post. I agree with you that knowledge-directed workers invest effort and time to attain the set performance standards. It is true that when these workers attain the set standards, they develop a sense of worth, motivation, and excitement for meeting the standards. Given this understanding, I think the organization can make the compensation and benefits strategy more competitive by aligning the standards with rewards. This means that when employees attain particular performance standards, the organization should have specific rewards for them. I think this would further boost their motivation and excitement about attaining the standards. What do you think?

Thank you for your elaboration of performance standards and their relevance in motivating employees to do better to meet expectations. Indeed, an implementation of the standards at the workplace can raise the competitiveness of the compensation and benefits strategy and can also facilitate performance improvement. Did you manage to get any resource that relates specifically to knowledge workers? Once again thanks for your insightful post.

Your posts are always elaborate and comprehensive and I enjoy reading them. I agree with you that short-term incentives are useful when trying to meet short deadlines. I hadn’t considered the effect short-term incentives might have on the health of employees and I must say thank you for bringing it up. Indeed, if the organization is going to use invectives to try to get employees to beat short deadlines, burnouts can happen and this hinders the attainment of the particular goal(s). Great post!
