For hordes of people and numerous industries, the manufacture and use of plastic products is their lifeline, and educating them on the hazards posed by plastic products proves to be an uphill task. As a result of this reluctance to pull away from wide-ranging plastic usage, the world is flooded with non-recyclable plastic garbage posing a global crisis of monumental proportions (Frontline PBS, 2020). In short, the plastic industry thrives in the face of mounting opposition and backlash. The situation has given rise to an anti-plastic movement that has declared war on plastic and has fronted several strategies, such as recycling and commercial advertisements.
Advertisement Campaigns and Recycling
The market strategy companies dealing with plastic products employed to entrench themselves to the masses was the use of advertisement campaigns. Perhaps the most prominent objective of the campaigns was to dispel the perception that the companies were not conscious of the effects of plastics. Therefore, they used them to mollify the public that had expressed its intense displeasure through massive and sustained street protests triggered by America's profound environmental awakening. In addition, they used the campaigns to outline the role of the public in conserving the environment. One of the most famous ones featured a crying Indian and concluded with a dramatic sentence: "People start pollution, and people can stop it" (Frontline PBS, 2020).
