Personal Evaluation
Personal evaluation plays a critical role in one’s educational and career life. According to Rolheiser & Ross (2013), personal evaluation plays a big role in fostering an upward learning cycle. Specifically, when we evaluate our performance, we are able to set higher goals and dedicate effort and resources to them. The significance of personal evaluation in our daily lives is thus immense. It helps us in being committed to seeking knowledge. It helps us understand that we cannot finish the learning journey and take advantage of every opportunity to learn new skills. According to McMillan & Hearn (2008), personal evaluation develops our self-perception and eventually leads to greater motivation. One’s performance and progress are then compared against the goals, standards, or criteria. This will help one in identifying areas of weakness and strength. In the process, one is able to make improvement where necessary and eventually learning is promoted. My weekly personal evaluation relates to the notion by Andrade & Valtcheva (2009) to a great extent. At the end of the week, I have to compare my performance with the goals I set. I normally write down what I want to achieve after the evaluation of my performance. In the case I did not achieve something I wrote down at the beginning of the week, I commit myself to achieve it during the week that follows. It is also important to note that in the tasks I set for myself, I accompany them with manageable deadlines. I thus strive to meet these deadlines. This dedication has helped me make significant progress in my education as well in my relationships. ...
