The headquarters of Computer Services Inc are in Paducah, KY, with 1094 employees working for the company in the headquarters and subsidiaries (WSJ, 2015). The company mainly provides core processing manages payment processing for mobile and internet payments, it also provides managed services including cloud computing. Additionally, the company provides integrated banking solutions while ensuring regulatory compliance during services provision. Computer Service, Inc then provides services to the business community, corporate entities and financial institutions mainly in the U.S.
Describe the management structure of the company. Is there an organization chart? One owner, etc.?
There is a functional management structure at Computer Service, Inc, with the employees reporting to the different heads of the departments. Even tough, the bulk of the staff members deal with IR related work, the coordination of activities is crucial to the success of the organization. The departmental heads manage activities in finance, regulatory compliance, technology services, risk management, Information as well as sales and marketing. There is no one owner, while the management team and board make strategic decisions.
How do you characterize the management style, based on your readings from Module 3?
Since the management have to handle different situations as they plan, organize and control activities, their style of management affects business operations. The CEO, Steven A. Powless relies on a permissive leadership style with the other managers making major decisions affecting their departments. There is a degree of autonomy among the departments but there is also coordination that limits a breakdown in communication. At the same time, offering direction to subordinates and supervising them is appropriate for the organization.
