Currently, social media is rapidly becoming one of the most essential features of digital marketing, which helps companies reach millions of customers across the world. In reality, businesses that are not using these valuable sources are missing a great opportunity in communicating their product portfolio and mission to potential customers. According to Almohaimmeed (2019), social media marketing involves all activities used by business to create awareness of its products or services. Today, many people are members in social media platforms such as Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, YouTube, Snapchat, Pinterest, and Reddit, to name a few – thus making them effective for marketing. For example, Facebook has over 2.7 billion users, Instagram 1 billion users, Pinterest 332 million, and twitter 68 million (Statista, 2020).
Social media marketing helps businesses achieve improved brand awareness, increase brand loyalty, reduce advertising costs, achieve customer satisfaction, increase customer traffic, as well as help businesses engage with customers in real-time. For example, GoPro, the World’s versatile camera uses its 16.2 million Instagram followers, 10.7 million, and 2.23 million to create value, promote products, and interact with customers. Similarly, Nike uses its large social media followership including 7.95 million twitter followers, 93.3 million Instagram followers, and 33.3 million Facebook followers to engage with customers as well as promote its brand. Other brands such as Coca-Cola, Amazon.Inc, Spotify, Way fair, Cisco, and Apple uses social media platforms to market their products as well attract new customers.
