I recently took an important assignment to improve efficiency for a medium sized company. Being a qualified accountant, I led a team of staffs in managing a consultancy service. The company operated through several divisions with four regional directors in charge of decision-making processes. Groups of board members controlled the authority of the four directors. My role was to cultivate a good working relationship with the regional directors whom I was in contact with frequently. One regional director requested me to investigate a particular project informally.
The project was likely to be deferred to the agreed delivery date because of its sophisticated design. The project was within the regional director’s responsibility. Arriving on site, my team discovered that there were several challenges in the project that needed to be addressed immediately, starting with the design faults that would affect the manufacturing process resulting in many contracts being breached (Lee & Jensen, 2014). My team generated a priority list of actions and worked to establish a revised schedule for the completion of the project.
In one of the recent meeting, I submitted an estimate to the regional director and the factory manager and requested for additional three months with extra direct cost likely to be $ 9 to 10 $ million. The team worked on a formal report with recommendations before the report was completed the group finance director requested the final report to explain it to the board meeting. The regional director had informed the financial director that our company was to provide a report and further stated that the project would incur a cost of $ 4 million to $ 5 million in extra cost and the delay would be six to eight weeks. However, the regional manager was away and could not attend the board meeting. The regional manager was cautious as he avoided facing the board. The numbers were different it would affect the company cash flow.
The main challenge, in this case, was to maintain my professional integrity by ensuring respond most appropriately. The other challenges to be analyzed were my responsibility to the board of directors and to whom is the duty of confidentiality owed (Andrews, 2014).
