Scenario 1
As far as the female employee is concerned, the main conversation will revolve around getting to understand her point of view with regards to the approaches and harassment she is experiencing from her male co-worker. The conversation will also revolve around understanding when such incidents occur and where they occur as well. The conversation will be casual, informal, and inquisitive to get a clear understanding of how the female worker feels concerning this situation (Simons, 2011). On the other hand, the conversation with the male co-worker will focus on not only reminding him that the female co-worker is feeling harassed, but also that it is against company policy as well as federal and state laws to harass co-workers. It will remind him that there are boundaries that need to be maintained at the workplace and that any form of harassment will not be tolerated.
In essence, these two conversations will play a critical role in how the two co-workers perform their duties and conduct themselves going forward. This is a core aspect of human resource management, and by listening to both individuals, each one of them will feel heard and contented. This is central to effectively managing the human resource at an organization (Noe, 2011). Similarly, both individuals will be reminded of the existing laws and policies governing workplace conduct and harassment. Because the law mandates providing equal employment opportunity for all, all co-workers must learn to adjust their behavior and conduct to ensure they do not offend their co-workers, both male or female (Price, 2011). By incorporating these tenets into the conversation with both workers, the outcome is likely to be positive and beneficial to organizational performance.
