The WeWork company is a real estate system that champions the creation of co-working spaces. The company gained rapid popularity resulting in internationalization through greenfield investments and joint ventures in Asia and European markets. In 2014, responding to global demand, WeWork expanded into foreign markets in cities such as Tel Aviv and London. This was met with intense competition from local firms and other multinationals. In China, for example, Kr Space was a local co-working service platform offering the same service, hence increasing competition. This reports outlines expansion strategies adopted by WeWork and the resulting outcomes. It answers the question whether WeWork should expand globally and diversify its products and services. It discusses the premature rapid global expansion resulting in losses. In this regard, adopting the US’ working culture and other business models in different markets and cultures, such as Asia recognized for a collectivist approach, would not meet the market needs. Additionally, WeWork embraced product diversification in 2016, which, just like the foreign expansion, was premature because it amounted to increased liabilities. The paper concludes that WeWork’s foreign expansion should not be a priority over the profits, and increasing efficiency in their business operations should include adopting culturally friendly models to regions it expanded to. Also, product diversification is a business approach that WeWork should retain.
