In Egypt, it is a taboo to wear revealing clothes, offer alcohol to guests and eating communal food with the left hand. For women, it is critical to avoid sleeveless tops and short skirts while walking in the streets. A majority of the population considers alcohol to be unclean hence visitors should avoid offering alcohol to the local guests unless they are sure they consume it. Eating should always be done using the right hand.
Laws are in place which determines alcohol use, smoking, and sex. Since alcohol is forbidden in Islam, individuals need to prove that they are foreigners to be allowed to consume it. Smoking is allowed and it is common to see young boys about 12 years smoking. Sex is strictly between married individuals of the opposite sex. Prostitution and homosexuality are forbidden.
