Business and Marketing Solutions

Essay Instructions:

This week you are given two case studies in our Readings (in the Lessons) to compare and contrast the challenges faced by each. The two case studies describe very different types of businesses; one a service-oriented business, the other a product-oriented business. The first small business case study describes a restaurant entrepreneur/owner who is facing growing pains that desperately need a solution. The second case study is a product-oriented business. As you read the cases studies, note how these different businesses faced both somewhat similar and, at the same time, somewhat different challenges to their continued viability.
Start by reading both case studies and make notes of the business type, the situation the Entrepreneur/owner finds himself or herself in, and then thoroughly understand not only the depth, but the long term complications the challenges pose to the viability and growth of the business.

Business and marketing solutions
A service-oriented business provides services to its consumers or clients. Companies are often classified based on whether they provide goods or services. Some of the most popular service-oriented businesses include; banks, retail stores, and communication media (Wong & Saunders, 1993). These businesses make up most of the services sector, which is an essential portion of the economy in emerging countries. Service-oriented businesses are defined in a variety of ways. Restaurants and food stores, as well as other types of retail stores, are primarily service-oriented businesses. Service-oriented companies such as restaurants have several operational issues, including shrinking inventory and waste. Unless controlled, restaurants can squander tons of resources annually. Another recent challenge is that clients and staff should decrease contact due to efforts to reduce the spread of COVID-19 (Chachage, 2021).
Restaurants continually face the challenge of high employee turnover that increases the costs of operations. Employee turnover rates have consistently increased in the restaurant sector, and it affects service delivery. The high turnover leads to poor service delivery, which is being experienced by customers in hotels now more than ever. Social distance in the wake of COVD-19 has altered restaurant operations and has affected customers' experience.
Despite facing significant operation challenges, service-orientated companies are worth investing in. One of the advantages of service-oriented companies like a restaurant is the low-cost capital involved in starting up compared to a product-oriented business. Compared to product companies, the development and sales of a product take time, money, and energy (Chachage, 2021). Flexibility in the operation of the company is another advantage associated with service-oriented companies. In many circumstances, a service company is considerably more adjustable than a product company, making it relatively easy to change as necessary.
Challenges that both service-oriented businesses and product-oriented services face are searching for a competitive edge in market domains. All companies, through appropriate branding and effective marketing, strive to attain dominance in the market space. They all want their businesses to sell well to customers by increasing their customer base through marketing their products and services online. However, the solutions applied to the challenges may differ from one company to another based on whether they provide services or goods to their clients.
In dealing with the challenge of waste and improved productivity in the restaurant industry, the POS system has been adopted. One of the numerous advantages of adopting a POS system is waste minimization in restaurant operations. Paper tickets are abandoned when staff takes orders using a POS or mobile tablet, thus reducing waste. Automatic inventory tracking can assist owners in monitoring stocks closer, which will improve the operations and productivity of the restaurant (Klein et al., 2021). To address problems of social distancing to av...
