When Joseph-Armand Bombardier established Bombardier Inc. in 1942, the firm specialized in the production of personal watercraft and snow machines. Bombardier’s Ski-Doo snowmobiles were in high demand by rich sports enthusiasts in North America and Europe. However, this original business unit of the company did not last longer after the oil crisis of the 1970s and the stiff competition from over 100 Bombardier’s competitors. As such, the firm had to embrace product diversification to survive since its initial business strategy was no longer viable despite its superb reputation in snow machines and personal watercraft.
