Case Analysis
Advantages and Disadvantages of Spotty and Potty
Squatty Potty is a footstool that was discovered by Edwards’s family with the aim of improving people’s position while emptying the bowels. The stool is designed in a way that allows an individual to achieve a squat position during the emptying of bowels (Zhang, 2019). The squat position allows the colon to naturally open, enabling the effective emptying of the bowels. The natural opening of the colon has several benefits such as relieving constipation. Constipation is one of the prevalent problems affecting people all over the world. According to the case study, approximately 19% of all adults in the United States suffer from constipation, and in 2011, the health care facilities generated over $1.3 billion from offering remedies for the diseases (Zhang, 2019). With the advent of Squatty Potty, the problem of constipation could be mitigated. One of the reasons why the Edwards’s family decided to go commercial with this product is the fact that the mother of the company’s CEO, Judy, resorted to adopting a squat position while emptying her bowels, an act that helped relieve her constipation problem that had persisted for several years. Thus, one advantage of Spotty Potty is that it helps solve constipation problems that have affected several people all over the world (Zhang, 2019). Most people do not get sufficient fiber and water in their diet, and in combination with poor toilet posture; they may suffer from the problem of dry stools; a disorder referred to as constipation.
Another advantage of Spotty Potty is its ability to alleviate hemorrhoid problem. Hard stools result in difficulties in pushing, and the high pressure created leads to inflamed and painful anal varicose veins, a condition referred to as hemorrhoids (Zhang, 2019). Changing the sitting position into the squatting has the potential to reduce the chances of developing hemorrhoids. Judy had suffered from hemorrhoids for a long time until she changed her position while emptying her bowels (Zhang, 2019).
Spotty Potty is also simple and safe. The device has a non-slip surface, gentle heel lift, wide stance platform, non-skid pads, and safe foot elevation (Zhang, 2019). Humans are designed to squat while emptying the bowels, and this has been the norm for thousands of years. Nevertheless, squatting position has changed with the introduction of modern toilets (Zhang, 2019). Although such toilets are more comfortable and convenient, they are the primary cause of conditions such as bloating, constipation, hemorrhoids, and bladder issues.
Although Spotty Potty has several benefits, it also has some limitations, which include
It may take time for an individual to get used to it. As indicated earlier, most people are used to the sitting position while emptying bowels, and they may find it difficult to adapt to the new position.
Moreover, for people aged above 50 years or those with preexisting knee or leg injuries, they may find it difficult using the stool because squatting can apply a lot of pressure on legs, ankles, and knees (Zhang, 2019).
Advantages and Disadvantages of Earned Media
Earned media, as evidenced in the case study, has several benefits such as r...
