The recent news article (based on the end of March 2021) on Boeing indicates that the company remains a major force in the aviation industry. The company is renowned for the production of both passenger and cargo planes although the most impressive element is the company’s longevity in the market with companies such as Southwest Airlines receiving the Boeing 737 series for nearly half a decade (Kowal and Loeffler, 2021). Speaking of Southwest Airlines, the company has continued its culture of being an all Boeing fleet by ordering a further 100 airplanes and 155 options across the 737-7 and 737-8 models. The completion of this deal leads to a probable chance that Boeing will have built the company about 600 new 737 MAX jets through 2031 (Kowal and Loeffler, 2021). It is a massive undertaking considering that Boeing airplanes had two major crashes in 2018 and 2019 in both Indonesia and Ethiopia leading to the death of 346 people (Duncan, 2021). Under ordinary circumstances, one would expect that buyers would opt for Airbus that has ensured much more safety for its customers.
Another entity to have entered the frame at the end of March 2021 was the United States Navy. The U.S. Navy had decided to award Boeing a contract worth $1.6 billion for the production of 11 P-8A Poseidon aircraft. This specific type of aircraft is derived from the Boeing 737 Next-Generation airplane enabling it to enjoy the cost advantages such as fuel efficiency. However, it has the globe’s most advanced weapon system tasked with the primary role of detecting and tracking submarines.
