“For much of human history, we have seen ourselves as separate from and independent of the natural world. A number of factors contribute to this view. First, we see ourselves as special, in some ways different from, and perhaps superior to, other living things…Second, we tend to see the rest of the natural world in terms of resources important to us—as a source of food, energy, housing, medicines, and even recreation…Many philosophers and historians agree that our negative impact on the biosphere is a direct result of a worldview in which we see ourselves as separate from nature.” (Krohne, p486)
This paper is meant to be an exercise in which you reflect back on all the “Human Impact” sections of the textbook that we have covered and write about one that is meaningful to you.
Writing Assignment Prompt:
Throughout this class we have given numerous examples about how humans impact the environment. Choose ONE “Human Impact” section from one of the chapters we covered in this course (EXCLUDING Ch 4: Human Impact-Global Warming and Ecological Communities) and discuss it in paper. Your paper should cover the problem meaning how humans are impacting the environment or in other words what is the “human impact” or consequence of human actions on the environment. Additionally, offer a possible solutions or alternative(s) to the problem or human impact (what can we do to help reverse, improve, or slow-down the negative effects of the problem). Include in your paper, an answer to the question at the end of the “human impact” section that you have chosen. Finally, also include why you chose this “human impact” section, in other words, why is it significant or meaningful to you?
Instructions:
1. Choose ONE “Human Impact” topic from the textbook (from the chapters we covered) 
2. Find and read relevant research articles that addresses the “Human Impact” topic you have chosen to help you form an educated position or opinion.
3. Write a ½ page, single-spaced paper on your educated position. The paper should include the following guidelines:
a. The problem (consequences of human actions on the environment) 
b. Possible solutions or alternatives (one or more) to the problem
c. Answer the question at the end of the “Human Impact” section you have chosen.
d. Why is this “Human Impact” topic significant or meaningful to you?
4. Correctly cite at least ONE research article using APA style IN ADDITION to citing the textbook (both in-text citations and full citations after the paper).*Please use the writing assignment rubric for formatting questions and as a guide for how I will be grading the assignment.
