Almost everyone wants their skin to remain smooth, spotless, and without acne. In some cases, acne is caused by allergies from people's food, clogged hair follicles, or occurs during adolescence. This skin condition usually occurs when a person's hair follicles are clogged with dead skin cells and oil, forming spots, pimples, and cysts. Acne affects many young people during puberty. However, individuals have no reason to worry since clascoterone was developed to address this skin condition. Specifically, it is one of the most effective drugs that individuals can use to get rid of acne once and for all. Clascoterone is an androgen receptor inhibitor approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) in August 2020 for acne treatment in patients aged 12 years and above. The primary advantage of clascoterone is that it is FDA-approved and an effective androgen receptor inhibitor. Indeed, it ensures that an individual has no bumps, cysts, pimples, whiteheads, or blackheads.
Clascoterone targets over 1% acnegenic pathway, inhibits sebum production and activates inflammatory pathways (Hebert et al., 2020). In particular, when a person has good skin, it gives one confidence and increases the level of self-esteem when interacting with others. In addition, Clascoterone is safe to use and has a low systemic exposure (Harris, 2021). On the contrary, one disadvantage of clascoterone is that it might lead to hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal suppression. In that case, people should use clascoterone by observing given guidelines to avoid its adverse effects. The clinical experience from trials conducted was not generalizable since it was limited to white participants. Nevertheless, the Winlevi cream can be used by individuals after a recommendation from their dermatologists to avoid skin allergies.

Clascoterone has anti-androgenic effects that work as an antagonist to androgen receptors that are expressed throughout an individual’s skin, including sebocytes, dermal papilla, and sebaceous glands. In other terms, it blocks dihydrotestosterone and testosterone effects, which contribute to the development of alopecia and acne. Therefore, clascoterone targets androgen receptors when it is applied to one's skin. Besides, acne can be described as a multifactorial skin condition that is characterized by excessive epithelial hyperkeratinization, sebum production, inflammation, and proliferation of commensal bacteria. Clascoterone molecular weight is 402.531. Its monoisotopic weight is 402.241 (Drugbank, 2021). There is no specific way of using clascoterone. An individual is just required to apply the cream on the part with acne. Although clascoterone is FDA-approved, young people below the age of 12 are discouraged from using the cream.
