Act 1- Set Up
Once Upon a Time in Hollywood is one of the American films that features Leonardo DiCaprio as Rick Dalton. Quentin Tarantino is the film’s director who portrays Rick Dalton as a struggling actor who moves up a career ladder in television to a lucrative role of being a movie star. Notably, the inspiration of the character is from prominent name actors (Tarantino, 2019). Leonardo worked together with his best friend, Brad Pitt, for years and struggled to remain active during the final years of Hollywood’s golden age. However, he transformed from a struggling actor to have a second chance in his career following a near-death experience with the Manson clan. Tarantino portrayed Leonardo as an outstanding actor in his casting as Rick Dalton. He is determined to become a star in his career and move up the ladder to the higher ranks.
Act 2- Conflict
The film portrays Leonardo drinking heavily, which was a coping strategy to deal with his life issues. However, his alcohol addiction got worse as he moved up his career ladder to indicate that he could be dealing with more responsibilities. Peter Duel was one of the inspirations to Leonardo, who starred in Alias Smith and Jones as a Western series (Tarantino, 2019). Tarantino narrates the experience of Duel, who had undiagnosed bipolar disorder. As a result, Leonardo realized that he had a chance to work and build his character.
