The development of drama in Europe increased rapidly during the industrial revolution that led to the emergence of big theatres and the involvement of women in the industry. The revolution was greatly experienced in France, Italy, Spain, and England than the other countries in Europe. Therefore, the work explains how drama transformed in Europe during the sixteenth and the seventeenth century as described in journals 11 and 12 of the class reading.
According to journal 11, France started performing one of the most emulated and admirable dramatic traditions in Europe In the middle of the seventeenth century. However, the theatrical institutions that formed the basis of the achievement developed later in France than in Spain, Italy, and England. The delay in the achievement of dramatic traditions in France was due to external factors such as ‘’religious wars between the Catholic and French Protestants (known as Huguenots) which paralyzed the nation from 1562 to 1598.’’ As a consequence, the history of public theatre in Paris did not play a crucial role in the development of urban theatric culture.
