La Jetée Film by Chris Marker
The movie La Jetée by Chris Marker (1962) tells the story of a man who is still upset years later after World War II. The opening shot of the film depicts the theme of an illusion of time and movement. The calm shot of an airport but appears to be moving presents live and motion. Notably, the concept of movement is brought about by the use of sound and visuals. Significantly, the pattern of the destroyed building images appears to be moving, but an illusion is developed by the movement of still images viewed repeatedly throughout the film. Clearly, La Jetée uses editing to achieve movement and time-lapse. In La Jetée, provocation of time-lapse feeling is achieved through dissolve, fade-ins, and fade-outs.
