Since World War II, multinational organizations proliferated as organizations aimed to expand by seeking foreign markets. According to Santos and Williamson (2015), some observers were worried that expanding multinationals would take over the world. In many cases, these multinationals have revenues that exceed the total GDP of host countries. Traditionally, these multinationals would be expected to be each other's rivals in the host country. As it turns out, emerging local organizations are the key competitors towards the end of the 20th century into the 21st.
