There are 3 parts of this assignment:
1. St. Peter's in a Triplet
Let's look at Bernini's Piazza through the tripartite structure we have been developing in this course. We will begin by adding another building—Amiens—as the second in our three parts, and by revisiting the Parthenon as the first in our three parts. Chronologically, it is very clear why St. Peter's belongs in the third and final position; but architecturally, spatially, and in terms of the evolutionary developments we've been studying, where the typical movement is from a relatively closed to a more open structure; how could you describe its placement, with respect to these factors? Explain why St. Peter's does or does not fit here in this sequence, and include the Parthenon and Amiens in your description.
As we have been doing previously, use at least three examples of works previously studied in the course in order to root your observations here. Use specific terminology and let your descriptions be precise and vivid.
And, as always, let yourself find a language that shows the evolution we are exploring without implying that things are getting "better" as we move forward. A human being who is an infant, a 20-year old, or 50 years of age; any of these are still totally valid, unique human beings, but for different reasons. Again, finding the uniqueness in each allows us to steer clear of the unconscious habit of saying that the mature person is best and the infant/young child is somehow inadequate.

What are your thoughts about this Boston-based theft? Why did the thieves spend so much time in the galleries? Why were those works—and not the thousands of others available—removed by the thieves? Where would you focus your attention as an investigator?
Post your thoughts, following the instructions below. Your post should be two to three paragraphs long.
3.
We talked this week about Empire and Propaganda. From your own experience in the culture where you grew up, what are some images of power? These can be buildings, posters, statues, etc. Choose three and talk about why you chose them.
Post your thoughts, following the instructions below. Your post should be two to three (well-developed) paragraphs long. You may also upload descriptive text, images, a YouTube link, or an MP3 file.

The Baroque Era
St. Peter’s fits in the third and final position after the Parthenon and Amiens because the gradual shift in architecture from Greek to Gothic to Baroque gravitated towards open structures and away from relatively closed spaces. The Parthenon, characterized by its many stone columns, short horizontal beams, and small interior spaces (because of the problematic need for internal support columns), gave way to gothic architecture. The Amiens embodies the gothic period of pointed arches, ribbed vaults, huge stained glass windows, thick walls, and elaborate tracery.
However, unlike the Parthenon's small interior spaces, Amiens was built to hold large masses of believers, and the weight of the more open structure was borne by the piers, columns, and walls. This open structure was heightened by the soaring ceilings, which transformed the interiors into inspirational sanctuaries. On the other hand, St. Peters adopted the later Baroque style, which traded the small windows of the Gothic period for large arches to give the impression of more open space. Complex oval architectural plan shapes were implemented to allow for the interpretation and dynamic opposition of spaces.
I was shocked to discover that the Isabella Stewart Gardner heist was one of the largest property thefts ever to happen. Vermeer's The Concert is probably the most expensive item to be stolen. The...
