THE LION KING AT BROADWAY
For the purpose of writing this piece, The Lion King Show was attended on Broadway in the New York Theater. This was a show that brought back quite some memories and developed ones. The Lion King is a piece that resonates with most of the people that had the chance to the movie. As such watching the play, one goes in with the expectation of getting a treatment that is less than satisfactory. However, as it turned out, this was a very intriguing piece and that was exhilaratingly choreographed. From the traditional African songs that are featured in the show to the grasslands shadowland and even the mourns by Rafiki; it was simply exceptionally executed (BROADWAY, 2017).
One part of choreography that comes out in respect to the piece, is the choice in the actors to take some of the major roles on the show. This is a crucial part as it determines the quality and the execution of the various elements of the play. Stephen Carlile who is a prominent actor from the London’s West End honored the roles of Scar. He was simply at ease with the roles, plotting and scheming for the coup that would see some major power shifts in the grasslands (BROADWAY, 2017). He is even meticulous at the way he involves the misfit hyenas to the party to make sure that he has the support to bring down the sitting king of the jungle and take on the power for himself. The hyenas are played by James brown Orleans, Bonita Hamilton and Enrique Sequra. At the heart of the play is the role of Simba which is brought out by Jelani Remy. From the time that he is lost, one is left rooting for him to find his way home again safely. More importantly Rafiki as a character is also honestly established by Tshidii Manye, as she is seen to be playful and even illustrious every if other time she hits the stage. Steven Taylor on the other hand is able to bring out the element of King Mufasa (BROADWAY, 2017). He is able to bring out the elements of gravitas and regal and at the same time bring some light out from behind the mask, especially where there are tender and private moments when his is interacting with his son. The choreography behind the way that the actors are able to bring out the various roles and even the personalities of the characters are astonishing. Even the part played by Cameron Pow as the charming Zazu is evident of a polished set of actors.
Having watched the film before, there is no better way to experience the piece than at the theater. The movements of the characters are honest to the personality. For example in the case of Mufasa, there is an element of dominance in his stance and even the way that he talks and walks across the stage.
