Project Monitoring and Control
Why is it important for project managers to resist changes to the project baseline?
The project baseline constitutes the project's cost, schedule, and scope (Taylor, 2008). When the schedule of the project is affected, the cost suffers. It is, therefore, essential for project managers to resist changes to the project baseline. A project baseline is determined based on adequate research whose conclusion considers various factors that might affect the completion of a project. Thus, no unwarranted changes should be made to a project baseline lest the project stands to suffer. If a project manager notes that the project is running behind schedule, they should speed up the work to avoid additional costs (Taylor, 2008). The same applies to all other components of the project baseline. Project managers should watch their cost and scope that they do not affect each other and the project.
Under what conditions would a project manager make changes to a baseline?
