Jeremy Bloom filed a serious legal case against the NCAA to challenge the amateurism clause. Due to his success in professional skiing, Bloom, a University of Colorado football star, earned money from modeling agencies and commercial deals. The amateurism rule is a problematic one that, if it still needs to be changed now, will continue to cause issues for the NCAA in the future, according to this instance. Understanding the amateurism rule and how it applies to student-athletes who are elite athletes before enrolling at an NCAA member college was made possible by Jeremy Bloom’s lawsuit against the NCAA.
