Having a large product mix is the go-to strategy for most fortune 500 companies. This is because of its many advantages. One of the advantages is that it helps the company to retain a large consumer base (Kaylani & Atieh, 2016). When consumers purchase products from different lines under the same brand, they increase the company’s sales. It does not matter if a company is performing poorly in one product line. The profits from other product lines will help balance out any losses (Kaylani & Atieh, 2016). Another advantage of having a large product mix is that it solidifies the brand. Still, in most cases, this only applies to companies producing fast-moving consumer goods. For companies with luxury items, a large product mix dilutes the brand.
