The Yellow Wallpaper and How Women Suffer Medical Gaslighting

Coursework Instructions:

Working With Outside Texts
The Yellow Wallpaper Activity Instructions
In this activity, you will determine how the story The Yellow Wallpaper (1899) and the article, “How Women Suffer Medical Gaslighting” (2022) “talk” to” each other.” The fancy word for this task is called synthesis. To synthesize information means to think critically about information from multiple sources, in this case, two, in order to come up with an observation, or connection between them, that you can ultimately use to support an argument.
Once you’ve read and thoroughly understand The Yellow Wallpaper, read the Psychology Today article, “How Women Suffer Medical Gaslighting.”
In determining how the texts talk to each other, give a minimum of three examples of how the narrator and/or her husband demonstrate/illustrate or play out the issues raised in the Psychology Today article and explain why.
The goal here is specificity. If we are being overly general, sure, we can say that the story and the article as a whole connect. But how do specific moments in the text connect? Why do they connect? When writing an academic essay, it’s your job to recognize nuance by shining a light on the smaller ideas that, when taken together, add up to your argument. Doing this is the difference between analyzing a text and just summarizing it.
Please format your work this way. Do not use this example in what you submit:
Psychology Today
The Psychology Today article advises women to trust their instincts. It states, “Listen to your body’s wisdom and believe in your internal voice.″
The Yellow Wallpaper
Early in the story, the narrator says, “″I think sometimes that if I were only well enough to write a little it would relieve the press of ideas and rest me.″
Connection
Jane continues to listen to her husband and ignores her instincts about what she belives will make her better. However, ignoring her instincts to write or have some other creative outlet only makes her sicker.

The Yellow Wallpaper/Medical Gaslighting
Based on the story of "The Yellow Wallpaper," a significant role is played in helping women to learn how to express themselves from their prisoned domestic lifestyle. The author argues that women should escape patriarchal expectations in this twentieth century because, in the story, Jane says, "Dear John! He loves me very dearly and hates to have me sick." (Perkins, 649). This story elaborates on how women fantasize about things in their heads that result in mental health as it turns into co-posed depression. The protagonist has been suffering from puerperal insanity triggered by birth strains that developed into a mental illness. Thus, the story advises women to understand and comprehend how to express themselves.
After reading the Psychology Today article, women are the central audience as they are the main victims of medical gaslighting. The author says women are the one who suffers more, "Women are more likely to be misdiagnosed, and twice as likely as men to be given a mental health diagnosis."...
