The Pitch
The pitch should follow the guidelines set by Cracked.com’s actual editors. You will be writing a
“fact-based pitch.” A fact-based pitch is a pitch that relies mainly on surprising,
counter-intuitive, or mind-blowing information you’ve found. It needs:
a) At least 6 entries
b) Reliable sources backing up each entry
Each entry on a fact-based pitch should look like this:
X. Title of the Entry
Three to five sentences explaining the entry in your own words. They need to be your own
words. We need these sentences so we know what this particular point is, and why we should
care about it.

“A quote from that source that backs up what you’re saying.”

The Pitch- Killer whale (orca) population and habitats
Killer whale population
The population of killer whale or orca has plummeted over years, and there is growing concern species will go into extinction, but various factors are linked to this. It is important to understand how the population of killer whales affects habitats, and the ecology as the population of the orca has declined significantly, and there is no clarity on the impact of this on marine life. “ HYPERLINK "/news/morning-mix/wp/2018/09/14/what-extinction-looks-like-a-young-orcas-presumed-death-cuts-endangered-whale-population-to-74/?noredirect=on&utm_term=.1a9174de2c1c" Without J50, the population is now down to 74 members — their numbers reached nearly 100 in 1995 — and many of its existing female members are nearing the age where they will no longer be able to reproduce”. There are more attempts to protect the killer whale population reduces. However, because of the predation of the orca on other whales, there are questions on whether we protect the populations of other whales from orca attacks, and if so how. The southern resident killer near Washington state is one place where HYPERLINK "/news/morning-mix/wp/2018/09/14/what-extinction-looks-like-a-young-orcas-presumed-death-cuts-endangered-whale-population-to-74/?noredirect=on&utm_term=.1a9174de2c1c" J50 a female orca highlights the threats to the killer whale, and the particular whale has deep scratches yet it is young.
Killer whale and habitat
The killer whales belong to the dolphin family, and hunt cooperatively for different types of fish and even the HYPERLINK "/nmml/education/cetaceans/killer.php" big whales. “There are no official killer whale worldwide population estimates.  There are minimum counts in local areas….killer whales are at the top of the food chain and are not considered endangered”. The big whales may live up to HYPERLINK "/nmml/education/cetaceans/killer.php" 50-80 years and as natural predators, their population depends on changes in the habitat and the availability of prey. The killer whales have huge appetites and since they are at the top of the food chain, they some of the most vulnerable to the effects of ocean pollution. Some of the chemical resulting in pollution are extremely stable, and pressure and have insulating properties and they can withstand extreme harsh conditions, making it difficult to stabilize the orca population.
Pollution an orca population
Orcas are threatened in the wild by external factors and especially chemicals and pollution. The population of the orcas can provide insights about the differences in pollution levels at various coastal waters. More people now view, watch and appreciate the orcas in the wild. “But the fact that people love orcas—most of us only ever see them in HYPERLINK "/article/earth-talks-killer-whales/" captivity—has no bearing on how well they are thriving in the wild. Pollution and livability are a growing concern in ocean environments, and future prospects for the killer whales ...
