The article “Air Pollution Is Shortening Your Life. Here’s How Much,” written by Somini Sengupta appeared on The New York Times on August 2018. It is an articulate article that discusses the manner in which air pollution is cutting short the life expectancy of humans across the globe. According to the article, every human on earth faces the risk of their life expectancy being curtailed by air pollution by some months or even years. The article mostly discusses outdoor air pollution as the leading reason as to why the life expectancies of people are getting reduced. On an average, the author fronts that on average, one year is cut from the life of a human arising from outdoor air pollution.
Life expectancy is a crucial global health topic that needs reverence and should be widely discussed. It is about checking on the general lives of people and how long they can live on average given the conditions that they live in. Sengupta notes that across the world, people are continually dying earlier than they used to be. Life expectancy, therefore, becomes an issue to her seeing that every medical effort is inclined towards making humans live longer and enjoy better health (Sengupta, 2018). However, with air pollution, life expectancy is curtailed in myriad ways inclusive of respiratory issues, contaminated food among others.
