To fulfill this requirement, you must attend at least one ticketed department concert during the semest-erTA-fuH-eoncert-ealend-ar-is-avaH-able-at-http://www.slcc.buffalo.cdu but note that lectures, master classes, and free concerts will not meet the requirement.
If you have not already attended a concert in person, then please view one of the free concerts that are scheduled to stream live during the current pandemic. You are welcome to find your own virtual concert (in any genre of music) or to watch a recording of a recent live concert instead. Look for videos that come with written program information to identify the music being performed.
Still looking for a concert? Here's a collection of recent and upcoming concerts from the 92nd Street Y in New York City.
After attending streaming the concert, for 10 points, please write a short concert report that addresses the following:
1. Introduce the concert. Describe the performers, the venue, the date, and any other relevant information about the concert. For virtual concerts, you should also identify the website or platform through which you streamed the concert. (2 pts)
2. Introduce the music on the concert program. What was the common theme that held the program together? For example, you may wish to consider whether the concert had a descriptive title, or whether the same performers appeared throughout the program. Was the music presented in a logical order? (3 pts)
3. Describe your reactions to one or two specific pieces from the concert. What did you like or dislike about the piece, and why? Using SHMRG, identify some of the musical features that contributed to your reaction. How did the rest of the audience seem to respond? (5 pts)
Due no later than Friday, May 8. For best results, complete within one week of the concert. Click on the assignment title above to submit your response. Reports submitted by March 31 will receive a bonus of 1 point. Late submissions will receive a penalty of 1 point per day overdue.
