Leadership in the military requires a significant understanding of the unit's needs to ensure that one can act according to the ethical and legal provisions. Close connection with the subjects indicates that a commander understands and can attend to the needs of each of them individually. The issue of continuous calls from members of my old unit on matters that their new commander could solve is essential and requires my attention. The most appropriate action I should take in such a case is to engage the new commander to ensure that he is competent and able to attend to all issues affecting his unit members. Before engaging the commander, I would hold the requests by assuring the unit members of a solution as soon as possible.
