Summary

Listening

Cooperative Learning

Cooperative Learning allows ELL students to be able to listen and communicate with their peers. If I have more than one ELL student, I would put them in groups or teams and let them play some English games to learn through their interaction.

Speaking

Model Language

Model language allows the students to learn to speak by listening to their teacher reading aloud and writing their intended topics. The students in this level are more visual and auditory, and they need to see words, phrases, and sentences to learn how to speak.

Vocabulary

Pre-teaching Vocabulary

Pre-teaching vocabulary allows students in the pre-emergent level to first understand words or different vocabulary before the actual classes commence. As such, they can remember words when they hear them in class and put them in context.

Speaking

Model Teaching

Model teaching involves the use of phrases and sentences which students have to say repeatedly, and the teacher reinforces the correct pronunciations. In addition, the teacher allows students to make modifications to the particular phrases as they progress.

Vocabulary

Visual Aid

Visual aid is an instrumental part of teaching vocabulary to emergent ELLs. For instance, the teacher can label everything in the classroom so that students associate objects with the words. Also, they may use visual aids such as videos or pictures with words to enforce vocabulary.
