Social deviance is when an individual engages in activities that are the opposite or different from the social norm. The social norm includes all the acts that are acceptable in society. Therefore, if individuals do not act according to these norms, they are likely to facilitate social problems. Something becomes a social problem if it does not correspond to societal norms (Bacon et al., 2018). For instance, a drug addict is likely to disrupt the well-being of their family members. If the person has children, they are likely to subject them to abuse or negligence. Such negligence can be termed as a social problem caused by the social deviance of abusing drugs. A substantial number of the social problems in today’s society are caused by social deviance. People should avoid social deviance to reduce the chances of causing social problems.

Social deviance perpetuates the problem of drug addiction on the macro and micro levels in several ways. The impact of social deviance on the micro-level of drug addiction is that it results in the development of other social problems. The micro-level refers to the immediate family of the drug addict. Social deviance perpetuates drug addiction at this level by creating other social problems that can negatively affect the well-being of the involved individuals. If the issue of drug addiction is not addressed at the earliest possible, it can result in an irreversible change in the lives of the immediate family members.
