Such assertions are better understood if they can be backed up with evidence through research. Research is known to shed light between the myths and facts. In the study carried out by Christopher (2008), in the journal of aggression, it was evident that media violence and games have got little correlation in influencing people towards committing crimes. This research finding however, demystifies allegations which most people have believed for a long time that watching media violence related content and playing violent video games can contribute towards an individual coping or acquiring some of the traits he/she observes in the media. The study was about Personality, Parental, and Media Influences on Aggressive Personality and Violent Crime in Young Adults. The researcher was set out to find which variables were significant in enhancing violence. From the research findings, it was found that personality characteristics and direct physical abuse radically enhanced violent crime as opposed to media violence and video games. In my opinion, this is one of the fields that have constantly received great debate on whether media violence contributes towards people becoming violent. In most cases, when conclusions are made based on few cases that have not been established whether they are statistically significant, people might be misinformed. This can in turn affect the line of thought for the misinformed people, leading to people making the wrong judgment. I agree with the researcher`s finding that media violence and video game are not statistically significant in elevating violent behavior to an individual.
