Introduction
Feuerbach (2004) defines Christianity as a monotheistic religion that teaches about the life and teachings of Jesus Christ. Those who profess Christianity faith are called Christians. They believe in the holy trinity that is God exists three in one (God the father, God the son, and the Holy Spirit). Christians believe that Jesus Christ is the son of God and was crucified and resurrected after three days. They believe that Jesus will come again someday to judge the living and the dead. Christianity is a religion that teaches about eternal life and the only way one is guaranteed eternal life is through salvation and baptism.
This paper explores similarities between Christianity, Judaism, and Islam and how Christianity has dealt with challenges in the modern world.
Common characteristics that Christianity, Judaism and Islam Share in Common
Even though those who profess these three religions are different in terms of belief, way of worship and doctrine, but there are some few common characteristics that they share in common. Some of the characteristics that they share in common are as discussed below:
They all believe in the Existence of God
Christians, Muslims and Judaists all believe that there is one God who is supreme, in other words they are monotheists. Muslims and Judaists greatly stresses on the existence of only one God. But their Christian counterpart believe in Holy trinity, that is God the Father, God the Son (Jesus) and God the Holy Spirit. It is important to note that, although Christians believe that God exists three in one, but they are still monotheists. All these three religions believe that God who is Supreme is the creator of every nature. They both believe that God is powerful, just, merciful and the giver of everything. Those who profess these three religions believe that one can speak to God directly through payers only, and God listens to their prayers (Antoun, 2008).
Abraham is their Father
All of the three religions believe that human beings are the most cherished creatures of God and he is very much pleased with them. They also believe that they are the descendants of Abraham, in other words, Abraham is the father of their faith. All these three religions teaches that God created man full of mystery which means that there are high chances for the human beings to continue growing in their lives and thinking (Antoun, 2008).
Jerusalem is a Holy City
Christians, Muslims, and Judaists are regarding Jerusalem as a holy city. For instance, Christians believe that Jesus Christ whom they consider as their savior was born and brought up in the holy city of Jerusalem. Muslims are equally regarding Jerusalem as a holy city and they always gather there to worship. Judaists are equally regarding this city as a Holy one (Antoun, 2008).
They Believe in Scriptural Teachings
Although they don’t share the same holy book, but they all believe that there is a holy book that God speaks to them through.
