The American Psychological Association (APA) is a scientific and professional body that not only represents psychologists in America but also promotes the understanding of psychology as a science to improve the well-being and welfare of the public. It also guides psychologists in their research studies through its publication: the Ethical Principles of Psychologists and Code of Conduct, which is regularly reviewed and which also outlines both enforceable and aspirational standards that psychologists should apply during their investigations. Besides the APA, the Institutional Review Board (IRB), a suitably established group under FDA regulations, ensures that all research respects and protects the rights and welfare of human research subjects CITATION Ore21 \l 1033 (Oregon State University, 2021). The IRB has the power to approve, demand study modifications to secure approval, or disapprove research that does not meet required research protocols or include related materials such as informed consent documents. This essay will review present ethical considerations that must be considered to ensure that my study adheres to the guidelines presented by APA and is approved by IRB.
The most important ethical considerations that must be considered are those related to participation, confidentiality, sampling, and validity. I will ensure that the research process guarantees voluntary participation and that neither persuasion nor deception is used to gain individuals’ trust.
