Youth Development Model
I have learned that the youth developmental model facilitates positive experiences, relationships, and environments. Indeed, it strengthens the capabilities and capacities of young individuals. Youths are significant assets in society and contribute to school, community, and family life. They only need to be supported to develop a sense of usefulness, power, belongingness, and competence. Resiliency enables young people to have appropriate skills that help them “bounce back” from adversity (“Resiliency/Youth Development Model,” N.d.). In other words, it involves giving the youths relevant skills to enhance them to overcome various challenges they might encounter and maintain functionality. The LifeSaver Drug Prevention Program aligns with the above concepts since it helps the youths know how to deal with life challenges that might make them turn into drugs, such as alcohol and marijuana (Courageous Hearts, 2015). For instance, the program helps young people cope with anger, sadness, and stress without using drugs.
