In The New Atlantis, Francis Bacon describes his idea of a utopian society. When a voyage of travelers from Europe discovers an Island called Bensalem, they find that it is a happy Christian society where religious freedom is tolerated (Magstadt, 2017). The people of Bensalem learned about Christianity when a pillar of light guided them to an ark that contained the Bible (Coffey, 2004). A member of the Solomon’s House was the only person allowed to go closer to the ark to retrieve the Bible, thereby saving the land from infidelity. As informed by Magstadt (2017), Bensalem recognizes other religious faiths, whose members hold important positions. The laws which have governed the Island for two millenniums do not require revision. Furthermore, moral behavior, marriage, and family are the foundation of society.
