Police Officers Should Emphasize Rehabilitating Drug Offenders
Police officers should be more concerned or focused on rehabilitating drug offenders or users and finding professional assistance for these individuals. However, it does not mean that they should not apprehend drug offenders. In most cases, overemphasis on arresting drug offenders without offering them to get rehabilitated is a significant problem. Some of these people are addicted and cannot stay without using drugs. In reality, when given a choice, they would choose to be arrested as long as they have used or misused drugs.
Based on chapter six, “Crime Prevention Programs and Practices,” one way to reduce crime rates is by implementing rehabilitative programs with appropriate levels of offenders’ participation (Peak & Glensor, 2018). On that note, providing drug treatment programs to inmates is more important than apprehending more drug offenders, which results in prison overcrowding.
